Movie Night at the Manor Fundraiser for the Mali Scholarship Program

Wed, 04/19/2017 - 1:17pm

The Global Equality Now chapter at BMMS is hosting a movie night in collaboration with POV, PBS’ award-winning nonfiction film series on Friday, May 12, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the BMMS cafeteria. They will be showing the POV documentary film “What Tomorrow Brings,” by filmmaker Beth Murphy, which is about the very first girls’ school in a conservative village in Afghanistan. After the film, Global Equality Now student leaders will hold a brief discussion about the film with audience members. Go to http://www.pbs.org/pov/ for more information about the film.

Tickets are $5, and can be purchased in advance or at the door. To purchase tickets in advance, you can click HERE to purchase tickets online, or students can purchase tickets in the media center during homeroom. Pizza, baked goods, and other snacks will be for sale during Movie Night. 100 percent of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the School Girls Unite Mali Scholarship Program, which sends girls to school who would otherwise not receive an education. The Mali Scholarship Program needs only $75 to send one girl to school for an entire year. To put this into perspective, it costs about $75 per day per student to attend school in Howard County. The goal for this event is to raise $750, enough to send 10 girls to school next year in Mali. Even if you cannot attend the movie night on May 12, Global Equality Now will gladly accept donations to help reach this goal.
